Performance Programme - Part 1: Celebration
Belgium-based artist Meggy Rustamova will inaugurate the Celebration part of Arter’s performance programme with A Speech of Nature. Devised as an itinerant performance and a sound installation, A Speech of Nature revolves around the idea of bringing nature to the city and connecting its inhabitants with it. Fueled with various images, rituals of shamanistic inspiration and objects that the artist has collected from different parts of the world, the performance will elaborate on the concept of “celebration” in the context of the inauguration of Arter’s new building in Dolapdere. Rustamova’s stroll in the indoor and outdoor spaces of the building will invite the audience and the inhabitants of the neighbourhood to take a walk in the forest without departing from the city.
Meggy Rustamova’s practice involves films and installations that articulate images, gestures and sounds and often bear a performative nature. Concerned with the relations between individual and collective memory, fact and fiction, her works look for ways to translate contemporary social issues.
