A subsidiary of the Vehbi Koç Foundation, Arter was opened at its building on Istiklal Street in May 2010. Following eight years of operation during which it presented 35 exhibitions at this location, the institution moved to its new home designed as a multidisciplinary cultural hub in the Dolapdere district of Istanbul in September 2019.
The publication titled Arter: Sanat İçin Alan Yaratmak [Arter: Creating Space for Art] aims to provide a closer look to the story behind the foundation and the making of this institution that has been gathering audiences around all forms and disciplines of contemporary art for over ten years.
The comprehensive book conveys Arter’s journey between 2010 and 2020 through ten key concepts: Arter, Memory, Production, Publication, Construction, Encounter, Bahane [lit. Occasion or Pretext], Sound, Performance and Together. The main text revolves around these concepts, each referring to a different aspect of Arter’s history, mission and programme, and is enriched by personal testimonies from team members and collaborators.
This book is published with the kind support of Tüpraş, Arter’s Corporate Sponsor.
